West Vancouver, Canada — An 18-year-old man from Maple Ridge, British Columbia died after falling from a chairlift at Cypress Mountain Ski Resort on Thursday evening.

The West Vancouver Police Department report that it responded to reports of someone in medical distress after a fall from a chairlift around 7:27pm on Thursday, January 15th. The man was then pronounced dead at the scene.

“All available evidence points to this being a tragic accident. There are no obvious indications of technical or mechanical issues with the chairlift. As the death appears to be non-suspicious, the investigation is now with the Coroner’s Office.” –Suzanne Birch, spokesperson for the West Vancouver Police Department

Cypress Mountain has confirmed the fatality involved a resort guest.
