Star Valley, Wyo. — A 31-year-old Utah man died after being caught in an avalanche while snowmobiling in the Labarge Creek area of Lincoln County on Sunday, Jan. 11, 2026.
The Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office received a Garmin inReach emergency notification at 2:15 p.m. reporting an injured person in the area. Air Idaho Rescue also was contacted and responded.
Star Valley Search and Rescue was activated and located Nicholas Bringhurst, 31, of Springville, Utah, who had been buried in the avalanche. A friend found and unburied Bringhurst and began CPR, but he could not be revived.
Lincoln County Coroner Dain Schwab responded, met with search and rescue personnel and took custody of Bringhurst’s body. The coroner’s office will determine the official cause of death.
The Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office expressed its deepest sympathies to the Bringhurst family.
