Freeride World Tour Riders Safety Workshop.

The first weather window of the Freeride World Tour season kicks off next week with the 2026 Baqueira Beret Pro by Movistar, set to go down at some point between January 15th-20th. But before the competition can happen, the world’s top freeride athletes, both skiers and snowboarders, are required to partake in a safety workshop.

The Riders Safety Workshop includes three major clinics. The first focuses on search strategy, working on the basics of beacon use in the event of an avalanche. The second clinic discusses technology and interference, showing how different technology like cameras and phones can disrupt a beacon’s function. Finally, the third clinic focuses on real-life scenario training, prepping the athletes for the worst case scenarios.

Of course the hope is that none of these scenarios occur in competition, but it’s truly great to see how much focus the FIS Freeride World Tour puts on these necessary skills just in case something does occur.
