An Oklahoma driver was allegedly caught going 106mph in a 55mph zone in Custer County, Colorado.

According to the Custer County Sheriff’s Office, a deputy using radar along Highway 69 near the airport clocked a 20-year-old driver from Tulsa, Oklahoma, traveling well over the speed limit on Tuesday morning. Three other young passengers were in the car at the time of the incident.

The presumptive fine at that speed in Colorado is $1,000, and the offense comes with 12 points on a driver’s license, enough for an automatic suspension of between three months and a year. The driver will be required to return to Custer County to answer to the charge in court.

Driving at 106 mph anywhere is reckless, but itโ€™s especially dangerous here. Our mountain highways are narrow, winding, and lack shoulders, with steep drop-offs that leave no room for error. Weโ€™re grateful this incident ended safely, but itโ€™s a reminder that excessive speed can have tragic consequences. Please, slow down and drive responsibly โ€” your safety, and everyone elseโ€™s, depends on it.” – Custer County Sheriff’s Office
