Last Sunday, December 28th, members of the Oxford Fire Department of Oxford, Connecticut, left the warmth of their homes and stations to assist a deer stuck on the ice of Lake Zoar.

The crew was dispatched to the area of Fiddlehead Road and Freeman Road for the rescue, with the first arriving units finding a deer approximately 600 feet out on the ice. The animal was unable to stand due to exhaustion and required help if it was going to survive.

Members of Oxford Fire Department and Oxford EMS donned their wet water suits and used a Quaker Farms Fire Department inflatable boat to make their way to the animal. Fortunately the deer was safely brought back to shore and given to the Connecticut Department of Energy and Environmental Protection.

6 units responded to the scene, including Oxford EMS, to assist this animal. Hats off to the entire crew for going out there and assisting this helpless animal.
