The Amtrak Winter Park Express ski train, which runs from Denver to Winter Park Resort and neighboring Fraser, kicked off its 2025/2026 ski season on December 19th, providing a traffic-free way to access the mountains without getting on Interstate 70. While train currently only operates on Thursdays, Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays (aside from major holidays), there’s a chance the train could run 7 days a week in future years.

According to Denver 7, last season saw train ridership more than double, encouraging leaders likeย Colorado Governor Jared Polis to push for further expansion on the train’s service. Part of that includes potentially introducing a later start, like 8:30am, or an increase in capacity. In the future, that could even include running 7 days a week.

“We’re participating and supporting it. So that is a little bit down the road, but it would definitely give people a lot more options to get to the slopes without having to get in the car.” – Jen Miller, Winter Park Resort spokesperson.

Currently the train departs Denver at 7am and arrives at the resort at 9:11am in the morning. In the evening, it departs Winter Park Resort at 4:35pm and arrives in Denver at 7:05pm. Tickets for the season can be booked atย Amtrak.com/WinterParkExpressย and theย Amtrak app, with costs as low as $9 on some days.
