Tip of the cap to U.S. Air Force staff sergeant Ruben Tala, stationed at Travis Air Force Base, who was driving with family on California’s Historic Highway 50 on Christmas morning when the witnessed a SUV slide off the road and end up dangling hundreds of feet above the ground.
KCRA3 reports SSgt. Ruben Tala hopped out of his vehicle and risked his own life to check on the passengers of the SUV, gripping the driverโs side door of the vehicle and communicating with the couple inside. As Tala hung over the edge, more good Samaritans joined the rescue effort and together the were able to safely extract the driver and his wife.
SSgt. Tala’s superiors in the Air Force are aware of his incredible act of heroism and want to join in praising him for the part he played in the Christmas rescue. Well done:
“SSgt Tala and Yvett’s quick action and courage are a direct reflection of our Core Value of Service Before Self. We’re so proud to have them as our teammates and witness them ready to help anyone in need.” -Lt. Col. Jason Christie, 60th Force Support Squadron commander
