A lost snowboarder took shelter in an abandoned cabin in Nevada while awaiting rescue on the night of Friday, December 26th.

Washoe County Sheriff’s Office (WCSO) Search and Rescue responded to the scene with assistance from the WCSO Incident Management Team, working alongside resort staff to carry out a backcountry response.

The snowboarder had unintentionally gone out of bounds off the backside of Nevada’s Diamond Peak Ski Resort. Crews used snow machines to reach the snowboarder at the abandoned cabin, guiding him back to safety upon finding him.

The SAR team, Diamond Peak Ski Resort, and NLTFPD all braved cold, challenging conditions with potential avalanche hazards to make sure the snowboarder made it home safely. Huge praise to all involved.
