On the afternoon of Monday, December 23rd, at around 3:10pm, the Powderhorn Ski Patrol, Mesa county Search and Rescue, and deputies with the Mesa County Sheriff’s Office responded to Powderhorn Mountain Resort in Colorado to assist in removing visitors from a broken ski lift.

According to the Mesa County Sheriff’s Office, the chairlift was experiencing a mechanical issue that resulted in the lift stopping. 57 individuals in total were removed from the lift, with the overall rescue taking around 2 hours.

Nobody was injuries throughout the incident thanks to Powderhorn Ski Patrol, Mesa Country Search and Rescue, and the Mesa County Sheriff’s Office quick and professional response.

Powderhorn Mountain Resort, located in Western Colorado, currently has 2 of 5 chairlifts spinning, with an additional lift, the Flat Top Flyer, on standby. The resort has seen 18 inches of snow in total this season and has a snow base of 9 inches.
