Burnsville, Minnesota — If you were to guess where the first ski resort to have a halfpipe open this season is, where would it be? Probably some place in Alberta, Colorado, or Vermont. You probably wouldn’t have guessed Buck Hill in Minnesota, but that’s the reality.
Yes, the home mountain to Lindsey Vonn and Paula Moltzan is the first spot in the country to have its halfpipe open for the season. In true Midwest fashion, it’s directly serviced by a rope tow.
In a time when many have shifted away from halfpipes, Buck Hill deserves credit for getting theirs ready so early.
About Buck Hill
Situated close to Minneapolis, Buck Hill has its place stamped in skiing history. Thanks to the ski racing program led by Erich Sailer, the Minnesota ski area has created many world-class skiers.
The ski area features 15 trails, 6 terrain parks, and 10 lifts. In the summertime, it’s home to various hiking trails.
This year, Buck Hill became an Ikon bonus mountain, meaning passholders get two days there.
