There are a lot of great options for skiing across Europe. Every country in the Alps is truly stunning, no matter the size of the resort or village. There are, however, benefits to some countries over others. Marlene of Marlene’s Leben explored the benefits of skiing in Austria versus the benefits of skiing in France.
France vs. Austria: Who Has Better Skiing
While Austria offers charming, traditional villages with historic centers, France tends to offer more purpose-built resorts that are more functional. France also has more ski-in/ski-out accommodations and cheaper simple apartments. In both countries, resorts tend to be very international with English widely spoken.
The French ski areas are typically higher and more alpine-focused, often above 3,000 meters, though Austria leads in lift quality and comfort. Slopes are less groomed and more natural in France, as well. Food in Austria is generally hearty alpine food while France focuses on cheeses, simple breakfasts, and other meals. Ticket prices are similar, though France is usually more affordable in terms of accommodations.
