A recent incident that occurred in Summit County, Colorado, serves as a reminder to do your best to check the legitimacy behind any rental before heading out on a trip.

According to the Summit County Sheriff’s Office, a visitor to the area arrived at what was supposed to be his Airbnb rental only to find an eviction notice posted on the door. Concerned with the situation, he contacted the local deputies to verify the authenticity of the notice.

Sheriff’s deputies confirmed that the eviction notice was real and informed the man that the tenant at the address was illegally subletting the unit through Airbnb. The tennent was in the process of being evicted by the property owner.

Unfortunately the only path for the visitor was to contact and work with Airbnb to find another rental unit.

Another surefire way to avoid scams at ski resorts is to book directly through the resort or at an established hotel nearby.
