St. Moritz, Switzerland — Lindsey Vonn’s stellar weekend silenced a lot of doubters. Her victory in Downhill on Friday, second-place finish on Saturday, and fourth-place result on Sunday’s Super-G showed that she’s back. This follows some bizarre comments from various ski racers, including Franz Klammer and Michaela Dorfmeister, about her comeback.
That’s not to say though other athletes weren’t on her side. Among those rooting for her is one of the greatest basketball players of all time.
Following Lindsey Vonn’s victory on Friday, LeBron James congratulated her on Instagram. With a video highlight via Europe’s TNT Sports, LeBron issued the following message:
“ABSOLUTE MONSTER!!!!! CONGRATULATIONS @lindseyvonn. 40+ is the new 20. Well until you wake up the next day!”
As LeBron referenced, recovery is a big part of the process for Vonn now. As part of her comeback, her coach (Chris Knight) mentioned how recovery is now a renewed focus for the ski racer.
LeBron James is also an athlete who’s performing into his 40s. Now in his 23rd NBA season, Lebron is an all-time stats leader in various categories in the NBA. Like Vonn, LeBron’s retirement date is uncertain, as he has seemed to hint at it more in recent years.
Previously, Vonn planned to ski only through the end of the 2026 Olympics, but she’s now aiming for the entire World Cup season. Lindsey Vonn’s next race is scheduled for December 20th at Val d’Isère, France.
