Packing for a ski trip can be a nightmare, especially when you’re bringing all your gear and not renting. You have to make sure your bag stays under a certain weight so you don’t have to pay a whole load extra, and you have to ensure that everything actually makes it to your final destination. Professional skier Hannah Melinchuk shared a few tips of her own to make packing for a ski trip just a bit easier.
Her tips aren’t all that complicated, but they aren’t necessarily super well known. To start, she recommends getting a ski bag meant for two pairs of skis but only packing one, that way you have plenty of space to fit clothing and other gear. Secondly, she suggests packing way lighter than you think, ensuring you don’t go over the weight limit. The third tip is to use packing cubes, making it easier to sort your gear and keep things clean.
For her fourth tip, Hannah recommends carrying on anything that you need for a day of skiing, including boots, jacket, snowpants, and gloves, to make certain you aren’t out of luck if the airline misplaces your bag. Tip 5 is to carry on your helmet so it isn’t damaged on the flight, and finally step 6 is that one pair of skis and clothing is usually around 50 pounds, often allowing you to fly without paying extra fees.
If we were to add a tip to that list, it would be to throw an AirTag or another tracking device into your bag so you can hunt down your gear if the airline loses it.
