Greenville Junction, Maine — Big Moose Mountain’s inspiring comeback continues this ski season with plans to improve access to its upper mountain. After being closed for a few years by James Confalone, a non-profit took over operations from the owner in 2012. Over time, they’ve worked on bringing the whole mountain back to life.
One of the successes of this new group is their ability to get access back to the upper mountain. The land was left abandoned after a 2004 chairlift incident. Over the past several years, the non-profit has spent lots of time cleaning up the overgrown trails. They also purchased a snowcat from Colorado. This winter, they’re adding another to the fleet.
Yesterday, Big Moose Mountain announced that it has acquired a used snowcat. They traveled to Deer Valley Resort to pick up the snowcat. This model is a 12-passenger BR275. To fund this improvement, they’re offering 10-packs for snowcat rides for $250. Cat skiing tickets for a single run cost $50.
Efforts continue for Friends of the Mountain to purchase the ski resort from the current owner. So far, they’ve raised over $2.6 million, but the non-profit needs help to keep it in local hands.
