Interstate 40 in Texas.
Interstate 40 in Texas.

The U.S. Interstate Highway System, love it or hate it, is pretty impressive. It connects the whole country like never before. The highways spread through mountains, forests, deserts, swamps, and more, providing sometimes stunning views of nearby natural and man-made features. That said, it does tend to have some pretty boring stretches.

Mileage Mike argued that Interstate 80 is the best cross-country interstate in the United States, but which is the most boring? According to this video, it’s Interstate 40.

Interstate 40 runs between California and North Carolina, running through Arizona, New Mexico, Texas, Oklahoma, Arkansas, and Tennessee. If you’re actually hoping to see things along the route, you might be a bit disappointed with this highway’s views. According to Mileage Mike, after Memphis, Tennessee, there’s very little to see from the road. That said, if you’re willing to hop of the highway here and there to check out the little towns nearby, you might be pretty impressed by what you can find.
