Skiing Mount Katahdin in New England.

Saying one mountain is undeniably the “greatest” in New England is definitely a subjective statement, but Mount Katahdin is certainly up there. It’s the tallest mountain in Maine, stretching to 5,269 feet, and it marks the northern terminus of the Appalachian Trail. It’s not an easy hike by any means, featuring an elevation gain of 4,000 feet and taking 8-12 hours for most individuals.

Mount Katahdin is mostly known for its summer hiking opportunities and less touched in the winter, but there are some with the guts to go out and actually ski the massif. It’s even more remote in the winter and requires a pretty serious multi-day trip. If you can get there, though, it looks to feature some seriously incredible lines.
