Utah — After a few weeks of delays, Northern Utah finally has lift-served skiing.

This week, two ski resorts in Big Cottonwood Canyon opened up their mountains for skiing and riding. However, the open terrain is limited in scope, and one mountain’s terrain can only be reached by hiking.

At Brighton, the lifts aren’t spinning yet, but there are people skiing and riding. This is because the Bone Zone has opened. This early-season offering was made possible by the ski resort’s snowmaking efforts. An official opening date for Brighton was just announced, with the Majestic and Explorer lifts scheduled to open on Tuesday, December 2nd.

At Solitude, the Utah ski resort opened up the Link chairlift on Thanksgiving. This gives access to the Easy Street trail. Park crews also installed a few rails for skiers and riders to hit. The goal is to open more terrain via the Moonbeam Express chairlift on Saturday.

We’ll see if cold weather and snow currently forecasted come through in the days ahead. For now, the only ski resorts open for lift-served skiing in Utah are Brian Head and Solitude.
