America’s only skier-owned major mountain needs our help raising funds for “two transformational efforts” so if you love to ski Mad River Glen consider pitching in to secure its future.

In the co-op’s first 20 years they have overcome many big challenges including paying off the mortgage and investing millions into capital projects like the historic restoration of the Single Chair, replacing of the Sunnyside Double Chair, the renovation of the Stark’s Nest, the purchase of new groomers and the construction of a brand new Ski School and Ski Patrol building.

As of October 31st, 2025 the Mad River Glen Cooperative reached capacity of 2,500 shareholders per the Co-Op Bylaws, so you if you’d like to become a shareholder you can put in now to get on the waitlist. While becoming a shareholder is really sweet, you don’t have to be one to contribute to project that will dictate the future of this beloved institution. Big things are in store for this little mountain with a big heart and they are asking for our help.

Mad River Glen Statement:

Mad River Glen stands at an extraordinary crossroads—one that will shape our mountain for generations to come. We are currently working to raise at least $5 million to fund two transformational efforts that together define our future:

Reconstructing Stark’s Pub — a long-awaited $2 million project to restore the heart of our base area.

Purchasing 1,100 acres of surrounding land — a $2.5 million once-in-a lifetime opportunity to secure permanent ownership and preserve the unique terrain that offers amazing skiing, snowshoeing and hiking.

While both efforts are vital, the land purchase is time sensitive. The current ownership of the land has received an offer to purchase 1,100 acres of land surrounding our ski area, including the 19th & 20th hole terrain, a parcel north of Route 17, and across Route 17 from the Battleground.

If we all step forward, this goal is attainable. Some will give more, some less—but every donation matters. Your participation illustrates that our community stands ready to protect and invest in the mountain we love.

For sale: 1,100 acres for $2.5M — by January 15th!

The land for sale is inside the area with the red boundary and includes everything skier’s right of Antelope (the 19th & 20th hole terrain), all the way to the Barn.

Why it matters

Owning the land prevents outside ownership or restricted access, and…

  • Preserves cherished skiing terrain
  • Maintains the unique ecosystem around MRG, protecting the forest & wildlife
  • Ensures Coop control – forever

If everyone contributes a “Buck an Acre”…

An outside buyer has made an offer to purchase the land that includes the 19th & 20th hole terrain, a parcel north of Route 17, and across Route 17 from the Battleground.

MRG has the opportunity to purchase the land-—1,100 acres of surrounding land, featuring terrain essential to our backcountry access, natural habitat, and the independent spirit of the mountain.

If everyone contributes a “Buck an Acre”, the Cooperative can buy the land.

Let’s purchase the land that protects our mountain.

How “Buck an Acre” works

$1/acre x 1,110 acres = $1,100
$1,100 x 2,500 contributors = $2.5mm+

We need to act fast!

We need to have the money raised by January 15th.

We can do it if we all contribute. Every skier. Every friend. Every contribution matters.
