A family of black bears were spotted milling about the base of Sugarbush Friday night on the eve of opening day and they scared the heck out of a dedicated skier who had already ready lined up to score the first chairlift on opening day of the winter season:
“There was some seriously wild competition for first chair of the 25/26 season. Wait for the moment a devoted skier was startled awake while camped out at the gates around 9pm last night.”
The bears looked to be interested a trash bin at the Super Bravo Quad base station but their investigation was cut short when the skier caught wind of their presence, shot out of his seated position and startled them away. Glad this dude has a corroborating video to go with the story of a night time encounter with bears while waiting for the first chair of the season.
Not the first time we have seen wild animals on the slopes of Sugarbush, just last winter a ski patroller got this video of beaver wandering around the summit:
