Japan — Are you looking for a Japanese ski resort with great tree skiing and backcountry access? Hakuba Cortina is a solid bet.
In a video by The Slippery Slope, he shares footage from a memorable powder day at Hakuba Cortina. He mostly focuses on finding powder through the ski resort’s accessible backcountry terrain, which provides easy access back to the resort. The key takeaway from me is that there is one hole on the backcountry route where people always get stuck, so don’t get trapped there. The inbounds tree skiing is also excellent, thanks to its quality pitches. If you want to learn more about the Japanese ski scene, I’d highly recommend watching more videos by The Slippery Slope.
About Hakuba Cortina
Cortina features a lot for avid skiers. It features 16 trails, 6 lifts, and a vertical drop of 530 meters (1,739 feet). It’s regarded as one of the best ski resorts for skiing powder in Hakuba, and thus in Japan. The mountain is shaped like a pot, allowing skiers to take different routes and reconnect on the Ikenota cat-track trail back to the base. Cortina is connected to Habuka Norikura Onsen Ski Resort. That ski resort features 12 pistes, 9 lifts, and a vertical drop of 600 meters (1,968.5 feet). At the base of Cortina is the Hotel Green Plaza Hakuba, a European-themed hotel with architectural design that I dig.
Cortina’s projected opening date is December 13th.
