The first proper snowfall of the season at Telluride.
The first proper snowfall of the season at Telluride.

If you’re a skier or snowboarder in the West right now, you’re probably desperate to see some serious snowfall at your favorite resort. It’s been a dry fall, especially in Colorado. Denver is still waiting to see it’s first snowfall which will be the latest in the city’s recorded history. Several ski areas and resorts are open, but they’re relying almost completely on man-made snow. Fortunately it looks like that might finally be turning around.

Telluride Ski Resort has already seen a few dustings of snow, but last night brought the ski area’s first proper snowfall of the season. Based on the resort’s powder live camera, just over half a foot of snow fell on the mountain. Depending on the area of the mountain, a fair chunk of that snow seems like it stuck behind, even as the sun has come up and warmed up the area.

While the snowfall is a good sign, it doesn’t necessarily mean Telluride is read to open for skiers and snowboarders. Fortunately they’ve got a few more weeks to get things ready. Telluride’s targeted opening day is currently scheduled for Friday, December 6th.
