Washington’s Stevens Pass Ski Area welcomed an adorable new avalanche rescue dog to the team. The new puppy, Jazz, is an unbelievably adorable Nova Scotia Duck Tolling Retriever.
As the newest member of the Ski Patrol team, Jazz has a few season of training ahead of her before she can become a full blown avalanche rescue dog. Once she’s all trained up and old enough, she’ll be ready to help save lives when needed!
The avalanche dog program at Stevens Pass was first thought up in 1991, with the first dogs appearing on the slope by 1993. Denali, Bo, and Chaser were the first, followed by many more pups to continue their legacy. Today Stevens Pass has around ย 7 dogs in various stages of their career.
Stevens Pass offers 1,125 skiable acres of terrain, 35% of which is considered advanced. 13 lifts serve 1,784 vertical feet from base to summit. On average, the ski area sees 460 inches of snowfall every season.
