Swedish truck manufacturer Scania offered two of their vehicles and use of their closed course testing grounds for Red Bull mountain biker Matt Jones to attempt a world’s first stunt that is straight out of an action movie.
The stunt is simple to understand, jump through two open sided semi-trailers as they speed towards each other, threading the needle in the air and coming out on the other side hopefully unscathed. While the concept is straightforward, the execution is anything but. Matt had less than a second time window where he was free and clear to make the pass and any deviation from an exactly precise run could have disastrous consequences.
The trucks were driven autonomous so driver error was non-existent and Matt was towed into the ramp behind a car so speed was highly regulated. Despite these constants Jones still had his work cut out for him on this world’s first stunt.
