Jay, Vermont — If you’re on social media, you’re probably aware that Jay Peak Resort is having a snowy start to November.
Oh, you’re skiing Valhalla in November? I’m so stoked for you and your bases. It comes as no surprise, then, that the Vermont ski resort will be opening its lifts early.
Yesterday, Jay Peak Resort announced that it will have a soft opening on November 22nd and 23rd. The trail and lift lineup has yet to be officially announced, but it’s expected that Jay will have terrain available from the Jet Triple and Taxi chairlifts. Snowmaking is certainly helping, but the Vermont ski resort is also receiving a bunch of snow. Yesterday, the Vermont ski resort saw 6- nearly 10 inches. We’ll see if the projected snowfall coming through in the days ahead will help them open earlier than that.
In terms of an operational schedule, the expectation is that Jay will close for a bit following the soft opening, then reopen for the Day of the Devoted event on November 28th. One thousand people were offered free tickets for this day of shredding, and season passholders are also invited to attend. After that, it’ll be open for daily operations.
What’s New At Jay
Improvements this offseason were centered around snowmaking upgrades, with over $1.5 million invested.
This offseason, 49 new HKD Low E air-water snowmaking guns were added to the Queen’s Highway and Perry Merrill trails. This will provide better early and late-season coverage between Stateside and Tramside.
Other snowmaking improvements include retrofitting old snowmaking guns, acquiring a new Techno Alpin TR10 fan gun, and two demo fan guns. These additions will be supported by new power infrastructure at both base areas.
Additionally, Jay Peak has installed a new summit sign, which will create many Instagrammable moments. #blessed
