Angel Fire, New Mexico — To coincide with a new chairlift, a New Mexico ski resort will be adding new trails this upcoming winter.
Yesterday, Angel Fire Resort announced another big addition for the 2025-26 season. Seven new trails have been added across the mountain, with the most notable being of the expert variety.
Two new expert trails will be situated next to the Rough Rider chairlift. Hell’s Gate is defined as “a steep, technical run that drops into thrilling gladed terrain.” Turbulence is described as “an exhilarating ride through tight trees and rolling contours.” Hopefully, it doesn’t feel like turbulence on a plane.
The other trails are called Heaven Sent, Kofler’s Run, Deer Glade, Grouse Blitz, and Corkscrew. Deer Glade was formerly known as Bo Glade. This area has undergone work for the eventual addition of the Angel Express six-pack chairlift (more on that later). You can click here to learn more about these new trails.
Other Big Projects
This year is the start of a two-year transformation for Angel Fire. This offseason, the Rake’s Rider lift has been replaced by a new fixed-grip quad chairlift. The new Leitner-Poma chairlift has a length of 3,193 feet, a speed of 455 feet per minute, and a capacity of 1,400 riders per hour. It’s named after Dan Rakes, a longtime employee at the ski resort. This chairlift will make lapping The Steeps easier and give quick access to Lift 3/Liberation Park.
Snowmaking upgrades were also made. Over at Rake’s Rider, 3,300 feet of new snowmaking pipe, six stick guns, and two TL8 fan guns were added. Snowmaking upgrades have also been made around the future Angel Express chairlift.

The winter of 2026-27 will see the opening of a new high-speed six-pack chairlift (Angel Express). This chairlift, which will go from the base area to mid-mountain, will have a length of 5,342 feet and a speed of 1,000 feet per minute. A new tennis and pickleball facility is also under construction.
