Silver rule of ski technique.
Silver rule of ski technique.

According to Avoriaz Alpine Ski School, there are two primary Golden Rules of ski technique. Rule #1 is to ski on the inner edge of your outside ski, placing your weight there through each turn. Rule #2 is to keep your body perpendicular with your skis. Once you’ve mastered both of those, you can move onto the Silver Rule of skiing, as explained by BASI Level 4 ski instructor George.

The KEY to control, agility and style on skis - DO NOT BREAK THIS RULE!

The rule is pretty simple on paper, steer your skis from the bottom up. Knowing what that actually means or how to do it can be a whole different story. The bottom half of your body is what should be turning and controlling your skis. Really your upper body shouldn’t be used to control direction while skiing,

Once again, like any rule, there are some exceptions, but breaking the rule should only come after you’ve mastered turning with your lower body and can resist turning with your upper body.
