Killington, Vermont — Work on Killington’s offseason projects is nearing an end, meaning ski season isn’t far away.
Last week, Killington Resort shared a first look at the new Skyeship Gondola cabins. Work is underway to install all 116 cabins on the haul rope. These ones look similar to the cabins over at the K-1 Gondola. While each of them isn’t individually heated, they will be kept in a new heated barn at night. The gondola connects guests to either Needles Eye, Skyeship, and the Skye Peak terrain pods.
First installed in 1994, the Skyeship Gondola originally featured cabins with designs by various artists. An issue with these cabins was that some of them didn’t open and close properly. The cabins were removed and auctioned off a few months ago.
Snowmaking Update
Snowmaking efforts began this past weekend, with a focus on the upper portion of the mountain. On Saturday night, Killington was able to fire up 175 snow guns, an all-time record for early-season operations. Snowmaking efforts focused on Upper Great Northern, Rime, Reason, Upper Double Dipper, Upper East Fall, Downdraft Headwall, and Rime. The guns are expected to be off for a few days, but the Vermont ski resort is seeing a few windows for more production this week. Opening day is TBD.

What’s New at Killington This Winter
A lot. Roll credits…. Just kidding.
The main project was the replacement of the Superstar Express Quad. It’s been replaced by a Doppelmayr detachable high-speed six-pack chairlift. As mentioned above, Skyeship now features new cabins and a refurbished barn for overnight storage. The ski resort also ended its 2-year snowmaking upgrade project, which added over 1,000 snow guns at Killington and Pico. Other upgrades include a new Ledgewood Yurt, upgrades to the Bear Mountain pumphouse, replacement of snowmaking pipelines, new snow groomers, and more.
In 2026, some of the planned projects include replacing the Snowdon Triple with a fixed-grip quad, a new Jamaican restaurant at the Needles Eye base, and the sculpting of a new mountain biking trail.
