Vermont — While ski season technically began in New England a few weeks ago, skiers in the region are longing for consistent operations. Luckily, it sounds like the snowmaking push has begun.
Last night, Killington Resort commenced its snowmaking operations. Temperatures and heavy winds are impacting their efforts, with snow currently blasting from the Great Northern trail and up. As of Saturday morning, the snow report states they have more than 70 guns operating. The plan is to focus on Upper Great Northern, Upper East Fall, Rime, Reason, Upper Double Dipper, High Traverse, Downdraft Headwall, Lower Ridge Run, and Killink trails when the opportunities arise.
Killington likely wasn’t the only mountain in the Green Mountain State to start its snowmaking operations today. Jay Peak stated earlier this week that they plan to make snow, and received heavy snow last night. The Vermont ski resort confirmed this afternoon that snowmaking operations have begun around the Jet Triple terrain pod.
The question is how temperatures will impact openings in New England. Temperatures aren’t quite dipping into consistent snowmaking operations yet, so we’ll see how long it takes before New England’s ski season officially begins.
