The Northeast is full of abandoned ski areas, some of which still hold most of the infrastructure frozen in time, some of which would be near impossible to spot without someone pointing them out. Pennsylvania is no exception to that, home to more abandoned ski areas than currently open ones.
Tanglwood Ski Area, opened in the 1960s initially as Paper Birch, was on the smaller side, featuring just 8 or 9 trails and 3-5 lifts (including double chairs, t-bars, and rope tows). The area did include plenty of snowmaking as well. Unfortunately the area closed around 2010 and all of the equipment was auctioned off.
Avery Zucco took a trip to the abandoned ski area, checking out the runs and terrain that it once offered.
