Salt Lake City, Utah — Due to its location, it was a no-brainer for the U.S. Ski & Snowboard teams to reunite with a school that’s less than an hour away from various training grounds.

Yesterday, U.S. Ski & Snowboard announced that Westminster University (formerly known as Westminster College) has become the official four-year college of the team. Over 50 Olympians have attended the university, achieving a total of 10 Olympic medals. This includes Devin Logan, who helped announce the partnership yesterday.

“We’re thrilled to partner with U.S. Ski & Snowboard to once again nurture world-class athletes as they pursue higher education and build a foundation for life after sport,” said Westminster President Beth Dobkin. “Combined with our strong academic reputation and our proximity to top-tier training facilities, Westminster offers an environment where driven student-athletes can thrive in both their sport and their studies.”

Why U.S. Ski & Snowboard Chose Westminster

The strength of Westminster University is that it offers affordable and flexible education options that are close to many major ski resorts. Salt Lake City is within an hour’s drive of 10 ski resorts, making it an ideal place to get an education for winter athletes, current and future Olympians, and the not-as-athletic writer of this article. There’s also quick access to the Utah Olympic Park, which is an excellent training venue for skiers and snowboarders year-round. Students won’t need to travel that far to reach US Ski & Snowboard’s HQ. Situated in Park City, it’s around a thirty-five-minute drive from campus. The partnership will last until 2034, which is when Utah is scheduled to host the Winter Olympics.

“We are excited to re-launch the partnership with Westminster through 2034,” said Sophie Goldschmidt, President and CEO of U.S. Ski & Snowboard. “Education is a core part of our mission and we are grateful for institutions like Westminster for their support of our athletes, on and off the snow.”

The previous partnership between Westminster and US Ski & Snowboard lasted from 2005 to 2018. Over the years, over 30 U.S. Ski & Snowboard athletes have received degrees from Westminster.
