Taos, New Mexico — Taos is celebrating a major milestone this winter with various improvements on and off the mountain.

Yesterday, Taos Ski Valley announced what’s new for the 2025-26 season, which is also its 70th anniversary. The announcement came a day after the ski resort saw some summer snowfall, which will give skiers hope for a snowier season at Taos than last winter.

The additions include a new chairlift, regrading of a pivotal trail, more flights from the closest airport to Taos, and more. Here’s a rundown of the additions for the 2025-26 season.

New Chairlift & Regraded Run: Lift 7, which opened back in 1984, was retired this past spring. Its replacement is a new fixed-grip triple Alpha Drive chairlift from Leitner-Poma. In addition, Maxie’s trail has been regraded, providing for a better skiing experience.

Taos Regional Airport: In what the ski resort is saying as their most expansive airport access ever, more flights have been added to the airport for this upcoming winter. A new route has been added from Denver International Airport, providing access to the ski resort five days a week. Other airports that connect to Taos Regional include Austin, Burbank, Carlsbad, and Dallas.

RFID Gates: To reduce lift queue times, Taos is installing RFID gates in the following lift mazes: Lift 1, Lift 4, Pioneers, and Rueggli. RFID Gates, which have become commonplace at most major ski resorts, lead to a simpler loading process for employees to monitor.

Village Upgrades: A couple of significant improvements are on tap for this winter at the village. The number of seasonal lockers has been expanded, allowing more locals to keep their gear on site. This new seasonal locker area, which will include 85 private and 6 family-sized lockers, will be across from the ice skating rink. New Red E Charging stations have been added, resulting in improved charging options for electric vehicles. Lastly, the new Taos Kids store will feature a variety of toys, candy, clothing, and other items.
