Cheers to California’s Big Bear Mountain Resort who are putting on a motocross race later this month after 6 years of planning. The Big Bear MX Grand Prix will go down August 21-24 and will have classes for riders from ages 5 through 60+. Competitors will race around the bottom section of the mountain on existing ski trails and fire roads with tons of elevation change and jumps mixed in. Here is a course preview with Motocross Action Magazine’s Josh Mosiman and SwapMoto Race Series owner Aaron Cooke who take us through the transformation of this iconic SoCal ski destination:

About Big Bear MX Grand Prix:

The Big Bear MX Grand Prix by O’Neal is the culmination of six years of planning and excitement between motocross race promoters, Swapmoto Race Series, and the team at Big Bear Mountain Resort. The group of race promoters has been putting on events collectively for over 20 years. Currently, they put on 23 motocross events per year, mostly in Southern California but also in Illinois and Alabama.

This one-off motorcycle event will take place on the bottom section of Bear Mountain from August 21-24, 2025. There will be race classes for riders from 5 years old, classes up to 60+ years old with different skill levels, and even pro classes. Spectating will happen from the patio deck, along with the food and beverage services that the mountain accommodates.

Sponsors will have products for demo and sale, plus inaugural event merchandise. The race course will be a unique layout utilizing the elevation, existing ski runs, and fire roads. We are bringing our roots of motocross to the course and have a design that will include several jumps and berm features.

Important Information:

All guests – both racers and spectators – must first go to the Brownie Parking Lot to pick up their packets before heading to the Bear Mountain Upper Lot or Moonridge for parking. This applies between 7AM and 5:30PM.
