Little Cottonwood Canyon, Utah โ€”ย Following the closure of the Mid-Gad Restaurant in 2024, work has been consistently ongoing on a new restaurant located near the top of the Mid-Gad chairlift. Construction is nearing an end, which is signaled by the announcement of the new lodge’s name.

On Thursday, Snowbird announced that The Nest will be the new name of the Mid-Gad Restaurant. The all-electric building will feature three sides of floor-to-ceiling windows. The Nest’s single-floor layout will be easier to enter and exit, with more seating and a varied menu. Next to the building will be an expanded patio with three outdoor fireplaces. This new building is being designed by GSBS Architects and built by Layton Construction.

Opened in 1972, the Mid-Mountain Lodge served as a popular hangout spot for guests for basically Snowbird’s entire history. However, to reach the main level, guests needed to go up a flight of stairs, which isn’t the most ideal thing to do in ski boots. While this was an inconvenience, I do miss the architectural beauty of this building. The new one looks nice, though.

The Nest is expected to debut during the 2025-26 season.
