On August 10th, 2025, Two Bear Air, a helicopter search and rescue operation 100% funded by Whitefish philanthropist Michael Goguen, was dispatched to Glacier National Park to rescue a free climber who got cliffed out on Mount Reynolds.
Free climbing is a style of rock climbing in which the climber can only use their rock-climbing equipment for their protection but not as an artificial aid to help them in ascending a climbing route. It is not to be confused with “Free Solo Climbing” made famous by Alex Honnold where a climbers ascend a route alone, without ropes or any other protective equipment.
The Two Bear Air crew located the female solo climber clinging to a rock wall. The crew inserted their onboard rescue specialist to a ledge directly below her location and was able to help her down to the ledge. Once the woman was safely secured, they were both hoisted into the helicopter. The helicopter then flew her to Logan Pass, where she was turned over to park rangers.
The above video provided by Two Bear Air shows several views of the rescue from different perspectives. Thanks to Two Bear Air for once again saving the day. Cheers.
