On August 8th, 2025, Chaffee County Search and Rescue North in Colorado received a call in relation to several dogs that were having a hard time on Mt. Princeton, one of Colorado’s many 14,000 foot peaks. Though the team doesn’t normally handle this type of rescue, several pet loving volunteers were more than happy to spring into action and help save the day.

Search and Rescue Saves Dogs

The notice of assistance needed for the multiple dogs came around 3:45pm on Friday, August 8th. The rescue organization dispatched a couple of teams in order to assist in the rescue. All teams and dogs were able to get out of the field 7 hours later.

It’s not exactly clear how many dogs were rescued nor why they needed rescue, though there are at least 3 different dogs visible in the pictures shared by Chaffee County Search and Rescue North. It’s possible that the animals wound up exhausted while hiking Mt. Princeton and the owners were unable to carry the dogs down.

Devices like the Fido Pro can be very useful when hiking with dogs. Even if you’re very confident your pet will be able to make it up and down a hike, carrying an emergency system that allows you to carry your dog down the mountain could literally save lives. If you’re going to take your dog on a hike, make sure you have something like the Airlift on hand.
