It’s pretty rare that we get to see skiing and mountain biking put together in one video, but Alexandre Chapellier and Marcus Vanheyst are basically masters at it. They’ve shared a fair number of clips playing “follow the leader”, with Marcus skiing on dirt and Alexandre mountain biking close behind. Marcus himself his a master at dirt skiing, really taking the “no off seasons” to the max. You have to wonder how many pairs of skis he goes through each summer. According to Alexandre, this was their first run playing “follow the leader.”

Dirt Skiing

Dirt skiing is nothing new. Ski movies and other forms of media have shown off the bizarre activity for decades, but it seems to be gaining a certain amount of popularity in recent years. If you’re going to attempt something like this (we don’t encourage it), you’ll need to find a dirt-covered slope free of rocks and other obstacles. Plus you need to understand that it will most likely ruin your skis to the point of them never being useful again.

Perhaps a better alternative to dirt skiing would be to head to an area like Great Sand Dunes National Park in Colorado. Multiple stores close to the park rent out sandboards and sand sleds, specifically designed for use on the tallest dunes in North America. There are plenty of other places across North America where one can sandboard or sand sled, including White Sands National Park in New Mexico and Bruneau Dunes State Park in Idaho.

About Alexandre Chapellier

Alexandre Chapellier is a photographer and filmmaker based out of the North Vancouver area of British Columbia, Canada. He specializes specifically in action sports, adventure and lifestyle. Unsurprisingly, in his free time Alexandre is likely found crushing trails on his mountain bike. You can follow his work, including several dirt skiing clips, on his website and his Instagram.
