Montana — It was a memorable 2024-25 season at Bridger Bowl thanks to lots of snowfall. The summer has also been memorable, but not in a good way.

Last week, Bridger Bowl revealed that it was struck by landslides and erosion following a July 29th rainstorm. This resulted in notable damage, especially on the upper mountain. Bridger Bowl plans to share more updates on the impacts of the landslides in the coming weeks. The Montana ski area is asking guests to be cautious on the hiking and biking trails, as there’s a growing risk of rockslides.
Some of Bridger Bowl’s audience weren’t happy, and it surprisingly wasn’t because they used the Fleetwood Mac version of Landslide and not the Smashing Pumpkins cover. Due to Bridger Bowl referencing climate change as a probable reason for these slides, some commenters weren’t pleased. Keep in mind that Bridger just had a well below-average snow season two winters ago.
However, not every avid skier agreed. Here’s what one commenter who used to live in Bozeman had to say regarding the changing climate at the Bowl:
“When I moved to Bozeman in 1993, we had a stretch of -20–to -30 that winter for nearly a month. By the time I left in 2000 those temps were very few and far between and very short lived. Last time I went back we had rain and slush mid winter. Things are not the same.”
To conclude on a lighter note, there was one comment on Instagram that I think everyone can agree upon: “Build a half-pipe.”
