Anyone in Utah looking to pitch in to help remove invasive plants should head to Alta Ski Resort on Thursday, July 31st from 2:00-4:00pm to join in the Great Weed Pull. Volunteers will join members of the Cottonwood Canyons Foundation to tackle one of the largest weed zones in the area. These invasive plant species disrupt soil erosion control and affect the quality of the water that flows through watersheds.
“Calling all Plant Stewards! We need your help to tackle an invasive weed population at Alta Ski Area this week.”
Alta is not only battling these pesky invasive plants, they are actively planting native shrubs, plants and ground cover to help restore their terrain to its natural state. Earlier in July a group of Alta’s summer employees and Alta Environmental Center planted 1,200 native plant seedlings Sleepy Hollow’s steep slope near Point Supreme.
“This is the Alta Environmental Center’s second summer working in this location, with a goal of planting over 4,500 new native plants to combat erosion while revegetating this popular ski run.” -Alta
