Australia — The land down under is having a memorable start to its season, and has received more snowfall over the past few days. For Mt Buller, this means that lift crews had their work cut out for them.

This past weekend, Mount Buller shared what work lifties had to do to get lifts open. The ski resort claimed that it saw wind speeds of 200 kilometers per hour (kph). Add in 21 centimeters, and snow started to pile up.

What makes these photos and videos interesting is that they depict what you typically see in heavy snow environments, such as California or Japan, rather than the Australian Alps.

Since this post, Mt Buller has received more snow, with 11 cm of snow in the past 24 hours. However, this round’s snow is a bit denser.

Located around a three-hour drive from Melbourne, Mt Buller boasts Victoria’s largest lift network. The ski area first opened in 1924, thanks to the Ski Club of Victoria, and its infrastructure has evolved slowly into one of the most sophisticated in the country. Out of the 300 skiable acres, 5% is beginner pistes, 41% is intermediate trails, 51% is advanced terrain, and 4% expert terrain. Their base village is also a lively place, featuring a spa, indoor climbing wall, trampoline experience, and the National Alpine Museum.
