Snowmaking is awesome. It lets us bust out our skis earlier than we’d ever be able to if we had to rely on natural snow, with ski season sometimes starting as early as mid-October here in Colorado. It’s a fantastic feature of the ski industry. But it only works if the temperatures are below freezing, and that doesn’t happen as early as some people and resorts would like. So some resorts around the world have turned towards snow storage.

Covering the snow with a massive blanket is truly an impressive ordeal. Taking up to three months in some areas and sometimes costing hundreds of thousands dollars. All so we can ski as early as we’d like.
