Tragic news out of Italy where world famous skydiver Felix Baumgartner died in a motorized paragliding accident at age 56. Baumgartner captivated the world in 2012 by jumping from a helium ballon hanging in stratosphere (24 miles above Earth) and becoming the first human to break the sound barrier in free fall.

Italian authorities report Baumgartner died on the eastern coast of Italy after his paraglider crashed into the side of a swimming pool in the city of Porto Sant Elpidio. The cause of the accident remains unclear, we will be sure to update when more information becomes available.
