The last ski season at Kicking Horse Mountain Resort was marred by a gondola detachment, resulting in a closure of the lift for the rest of the season. Many have wondered about its status, which has likely impacted vacation plans for the 2025-26 season. Kicking Horse provided an update this week, which has not erased concerns from fans of the ski resort.

Earlier this week, Kicking Horse provided an update on the gondola repairs. They noted that to ensure the Golden Eagle Express Gondola is safe for riders, they’re replacing all the gondola cabin hanger arms. Due to supply chain delays, these parts won’t arrive until early August. A reopening date has yet to be announced.

Here’s the full statement on the gondola from Kicking Horse:

The review into the Golden Eagle Express Gondola incident remains ongoing. As the hanger-arm was the component involved, and in line with our commitment to safety, all gondola cabin hanger-arms will be replaced with newly manufactured parts. We’ve just received an update from the lift manufacturer: due to supply chain delays, the parts are now expected to ship during the first week of August. Once received, KHMR Maintenance will prioritize installation and begin preparing for the required inspection process.”

Kicking Horse shared the news on social media, but interestingly didn’t share what was a relatively short statement on there.

I’m not sure why they couldn’t have just added that on their social media post, as it was a succinct statement. This viewpoint was also shared by other commentators, who also aren’t thrilled about the uncertain timeline. On the Facebook post, there wasn’t even a shared link to the trail report. On Instagram, the link was in the bio, which is less of a hassle for internet users.

The situation ultimately shows why skiers and riders in Canada have become frustrated with Resorts of the Canadian Rockies.
