A Colorado couple returned to their campsite to find two men rummaging through their stuff while attempting to steal their belongings.
According to the Summit County Sheriff’s Office, the couple set up camp in a dispersed area outside of Frisco before heading out on a hike. They found a man inside their tent and another at their camp actively going through their belongings and putting things into their pocket. Larger items had been disassembled and hidden in nearby trees.
The couple confronted the men and both attempted to run away. The male camper was able to tackle one of the men while the other managed to escape. The suspect’s dog bit and broke the male camper’s skin before he was able to get the alleged thief to empty his pockets. Some of the camper’s belongings were returned before the suspect fled from the scene.
The couple packed up and made their way to St. Anthony Summit Hospital for treatment from the dog bite where deputies met them. One of the suspects had also come to the hospital and, after a full investigation, was arrested on several charges including burglary and felony theft. The suspects dog was also taken into custody and placed under a 10-day quarantine.
The second suspect is yet to be located and the investigation is still active.
