Silver Queen Express Chairlift motor install @ Crested Butte

Great news out of Colorado where Crested Butte’s Silver Queen Chairlift just made a major step in its maintenance overhaul project as its motor (weighing nearly 15,000 pounds) made the journey from Denver after expert refurbishment and was safely reinstalled in the lift’s top terminal yesterday afternoon.

First installed in 1992, Silver Queen has been cornerstone for skiers and snowboarders at Crested Butte for decades and Vail Resorts decided it was high time for a complete reconditioning of the motor’s highly specialized components to ensure its safety and efficiency for years to come.

“Reconditioning the Silver Queen motor is a big job for our mountain ops teams. The Mountain Ops teams are focused on ensuring Silver Queen is ready to transport guests to our iconic peak hike this summer!” –Steve Duke, Director of Mountain Operations at CBMR

The project is bit behind schedule of their mid-June projections but it looks like its well on its way to getting back up and running.

“Our hardworking lift maintenance and mountain ops teams are putting on the final touches to get her fully ready to power scenic rides and set hikers off to the summit of Mt. CB.”
