Portsmouth, New Hampshire — Last weekend, a surprise visitor wanted to pick up some take out at a popular restaurant.

On June 20th at 7 a.m., a deer jumped into a window at The Friendly Toast in Portsmouth, New Hampshire. It’s unclear why the animal jumped inside, but she may have been looking for a sip of that Coffee Toast Crunch. While New Hampshire is generally a rural state, the surprise from this instance was that the restaurant is in the downtown of one of biggest cities.

While the deer was a little banged up, a sous chef helped it leave the building. The deer was likely ok, as authorities believe that the animal returned to the forest.

While locals missed the restaurant dearly during its downtime, guests were deer-lighted to hear that the closure was brief. After getting a new window from Portland Glass, The Friendly Toast reopened June 21st at 7:30 a.m. ThroughJune 27th, they’re donating one buck from each Market Square Mimosa to the Center for Wildlife.

The Friendly Toast is a New England restaurant chain that serves breakfast food and various drinks all day. They’re an expanding chain that has locations in Maine, Massachusetts, Vermont, New Hampshire, and Connecticut.
