British Columbia — While there are no big-time projects happening this offseason at Big White Ski Resort, a slew of small to medium-sized projects are in the works.
Yesterday, Big White Ski Resort announced $9.4 million CAD (roughly $7.07 million USD) in offseason projects.
$2.6 Million CAD will be going towards at Village Centre Mall. They will be adding a new Daycare and expanding the Kids’ Centre. These two facilities will be taking over the Riders Store, which will be moving over to the Whitefoot Lodge. In addition, a new stairway over at the Village Center Mall will make for an easier connect from the parking lots to the main level walkway.
In terms of lifts, two renovations are planned. The Black Forest Express will undergo a $3 million CAD modernization, which will include adding an auxiliary motor for more reliable operations. The Ridge Rocket chairlift will be getting a new drive controller and a repainting. A full modernization of Ridge Rocket is planned for the 2026 offseason.
Big White will also see a parking expansion. Over at the Black Forest base area, they will grow the existing upper lot and build a new low overflow lot. This will help reduce congestion and improve traffic flow during peak periods.
Other offseason improvements include the refurbishment and reopening of the Kettle Valley Steakhouse, the purchase of a new WINTERSTEIGER tuning machine and a skate sharpener for the Repair Shop, the acquisition a new PistenBully 400 winch cat, installing RFID gates in the beginner areas, adding digital infrastructure to the top of Black Forest for signage, new fiber optic lines in various terrain pods, new electric cables in the Ridge Rocket terrain pod that will allow for improved signage, and brush cutting/clearing on the slopes that will also help with wildfire risks.
“All of these enhancements play a role in our long-term vision for modernization,” said Darcy Arnold, the chief operating officer at Big White Ski Resort. “They’re strategic investments that support how we want Big White to grow — smarter, more sustainable and always focused on our guests.”
Big White’s summer operations are scheduled to commence on June 26th. Some of Big White’s summer activities include mountain biking, hiking trails, disc golf, and scenic lift rides. This summer, Big White plans to debut four new biking trails.
