Quebec — It’s been an unusual May for the Northeast’s ski industry. It’s typically a competition between Killington Resort and Sommet Saint Sauveur to see who will close last. However, the construction of the new Superstar chairlift led Killington to close much earlier than usual. This means that Sommet Saint Sauveur is the only outdoor ski resort still open.
Sommet Saint Sauveur will be open the next four days, with the hours being 9 a.m.-5 p.m. on Friday, 9 a.m.- 10 p.m. on Saturday, 9 a.m.-5 p.m. on Sunday, and 9 a.m.-5 p.m. on Monday. The Côte 70 Ouest trail is open, with the only lift operating being L’Étoile. Saturday will be May Madness, which is their annual celebration that includes skiing in the day and evening, plus live music and other festivities. This is Victoria Day Weekend for Canada, hence the more extended weekend hours compared to their traditional spring operations (Friday-Sunday).
Technically, Sommet Saint Sauveur’s ski season continues into June. Akamp is a program at Sommet Saint Sauveur that’s available for a limited number of weekends in the summertime. The park is planned to be set up for June 27-29 and July 1-3. In addition, a rope tow will be offered this year.
