Wind Cave National Park was forced to suspended cave tours after a transformer malfunctioned Sunday afternoon.
The tours will be suspended until the elevator transformer is replaced. A timeline on the replacement is currently unknown. In the meantime, visitors will be able to take virtual tours of the Natural Entrance Tour using Lidar technology.
The park has new exhibits in the visitor center, open between 8am and 4:30pm, displaying the story of the national park and the people who lived on its land. Program times for the virtual tour are available on the park website.
Wind Cave National Park protects rolling prairie grasslands, forested hillsides, and the Wind Cave blow, one of the longest and most complex caves in the world. The park is home to bison, elk, and plenty of other wildlife for visitors to experience.
