Skiing at Kirkwood.
Skiing at Kirkwood.

Kirkwood Mountain Resort, opened in 1972, offers 2,300 acres of skiable terrain over 2,000 vertical feet, with 86 named trails and 15 chairlifts. The Tahoe area resort averages 354 inches of snowfall every year, with some proper expert only terrain making for some top notch skiing and snowboarding.

It has a rich history, too. The Kirkwood Inn, which today acts as a popular restaurant and bar, was established in 1864 as Kirkwood Station, serving those traveling through the Sierra. But who actually built the resort? That’s what Kirkwood explores in this video.

Of course its the natural landscape that really makes a ski area what it is, but a true group of ski bums are what made it all happen. They saw what the terrain could offer and made it happen.
